The Porębski Forest occupies nearly 750 hectares. It is a special, protected area of natural habitats, created as part of the Natura 2000 Network. It extends south from the town of Poręba, which to the east adjoins the industrial city of Zawiercie. Here, the varied terrain of wetlands dotted with small stream valleys or cavities caused by extraction is covered with deciduous and coniferous forests. The forest is, inter alia, home to a rare species of flowering plant - Hacquetia epipactis. Rare birds, such as cranes, several species of woodpeckers and flycatchers nest here.
