Żywiec
The Żywiec Archducal Brewery is one of the most famous and successful producers of beer in Poland. The history of the plant began in the mid-nineteenth century, when the decision was taken by Archduke Albrecht Friedrich Habsburg, the then owner of Żywiec to build a brewery. Many of the original brewery buildings have been preserved to this day. They were designed by Karol Pietschka. The Żywiec Brewery Museum astounds with modern solutions, where we will learn the history of the plant and the process of beer production.
Tresna
Żywiec Lake was created by the damming of the Soła river in the 60s of the last century whose valley was divided by a dam. The southern end of the lake, located within the Żywiecka Valley, almost reaches the area of downtown Żywiec. The northern part of the lake (in the vicinity of the dam) occupies a narrow valley, cutting into the slopes of the Little Beskids. The Żywiec reservoir is used for producing energy, flood control and tourism and recreation.

Węgierska Górka
Węgierska Górka was one of the most important fortified areas in the south of Poland during the Defensive War in 1939. The stronghold of Węgierska Górka was a complex of fortifications, built shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War. Its purpose was to defend the strategically important road and railway line in the valley of the Soła in case of an attack on Poland by the German troops from the south, from the area of Slovakia, which at that time was allied with Hitler.
Glinka
The Geopark Glinka in the commune of Ujsoły is another place for fans of extreme sensations. The former quarry offers amazing attractions. There is one of the longest in Poland, 220-meter-long, Tyrolean downhill over a 30-meter-deep precipice. There are climbing walls, multi-purpose and beautiful views from walking paths, which run on top of the quarry. And that's not the end of the attractions. Work is underway on the expansion of the park.

Radziechowy
Mount Matyska is a distinctive, treeless hill with a height of 612 m. Geographically; it belongs to the Silesian Beskids, towering above the villages of Radziechowy and Przybędza, which are located near Żywiec. On the top we can find the Millennium Cross, erected to commemorate the Jubilee Year. Next to it, a mound was built, on which the earth from Katyń and the grave of Stanisław Pyjas were placed. Mount Matyska is also known by the Way of the Cross with intriguing sculptures.
Międzybrodzie Żywieckie
Mount Żar is a popular tourist destination. It is located in the Little Beskid. The peak rises to 761 m. above sea leve over steep, wooded slopes dominating over Międzybrockie Lake. On the artificially flattened top there is a water reservoir, which is part of the pumped-storage hydroelectricity, which was put to use in 1979. The reservoir is 650 meters long and 250 meters long, with the maximum depth of 28 meters. Its volume is 2 310 000 cubic meters.

Rajcza
A tall church tower dominates the landscape of Rajcza lying in the Soła river valley spread Rajcza Sola. The church of Saints Lawrence and Casimir the King was built in the neo-Romanesque and Gothic styles in 1890. It replaced a smaller wooden church, erected in the late seventeenth century. Inside, one can find the image of Our Lady of Casimir. Because of the benevolent image of the Virgin, the church was raised to the rank of the sanctuary.
Sól
The reserve "Butorza" is located in the vicinity of Sól, a village in the commune of Rajcza, on the slopes of Mount Rachowiec (954 m). It was established in 1961 to protect primarily a submontane spruce forest, with beautiful specimens of Istebna spruce, which often reaches here over 35 meters in height and 50 cm in diameter at breast height. In the reserve, we can encounter a rich beech forest. The local woods are from time to time visited by large predators - wolves and lynxes.
Sól
Sól is a charming village in the Słanica river valley, in the very heart of the Żywiec Beskid. In the village, there are a few traditional highland wooden log cottages. However, the most interesting monument is a wooden belfry from 1837, which stands on the main road. It is a post and beam construction covered with shingles. In the middle, there is a turret cast by Leopold Franciszek Stanki from Olomouc in the nineteenth century.
Milówka
Milówka is a popular summer resort. It lies in the valley of the Soła river, on the border of the Silesian Beskids and the city of Żywiec. In Milówka, on the Wooden Architecture Trail of the Silesia province, there is an old wooden cottage with an original furnishing. This "Old Cottage" is a typical example of traditional architecture building characteristic for the land of Żywiec. Besides, it is one of the oldest buildings in the region. Legend has it that the Polish kings were staying here, including John Casimir escaping the Swedes and John III Sobieski on the way to Vienna.
Milówka
The village of Milówka was for the first time mentioned in 1537. The origins of the village are related to both the Polish settlement (which from the lowlands up moved into these valleys, including the Sola river valley), as well as the settlement of the Wallachians, who reached the Beskid area from the east, along the arc of the Carpathians. The local, brick church was built in the 30s of the nineteenth century. It was erected on the site of a former wooden building dated from the seventeenth century.
Węgierska Górka
In 2009, six monumental wooden sculptures of robbers were erected at the promenade in Węgierska Górka, forming the so-called Alley of Brigands. It is a reminder and an original promotion of brigand traditions, closely connected with the history of the region. The sculptures form a gallery, which is unique in Poland, of the characters of the famous brigands and presents the history of brigandage in the lands of Żywiec. The sculptures were by folk artists who came to the Beskids from all over Poland.
Węgierska Górka
The Education Nature and Forest Center was established in 2005. It is located at the seat of the Forestry Management of Węgierska Górka. It is one of the facilities operating within the project of the Promotion of Forest Communities called “the Silesian Beskid Woodlands”. Here, there is an exhibition devoted to the flora and fauna of this part of the Beskids. The center houses a lecture hall with 30 seats, equipped with multimedia.

Cisiec
In the village of Cisiec, near Węgierska Górka, there is a church of Saint Maximilian Kolbe. The shrine was built in defiance of the communist authorities, which wanted to prevent the erection of the church on this spot. The church was built by the local people without the permission of the authorities on November 5, and on the night of 5 to 6 November 1972. Such a fast construction of the parish church in Cisiec was most aptly named "the miracle of one day"), and it illustrates the difficulties posed by the communist authorities, in order to prevent the construction of religious buildings.
Cisiec
In the village of Cisiec, near Węgierska Górka, we can encounter interesting traditions of manufacturing floral compositions made of tissue paper, as well as unique, local customs of carol singing, unknown in other parts of the country. One of the most interesting places in the village is a museum founded by Jan Talik. In the museum, we can see the exhibits relative to the culture of the Żywiec region, and listen to the stories of the host himself.
Radziechowy
The village of Radziechowy near Żywiec pride itself on one of the oldest parishes in this part of the Poland. Its inception dates back to 1390. The brick church of Saint Martin served the faithful here as early as the fifteenth century. The building combines the Gothic and Baroque features. The early sixteenth-century statue of the Madonna and Child and the altars of the eighteenth century can be found inside the church. Mount of Matyska, towering over Radziechowy is known for the Golgotha of the Beskids.
Złatna
The forester’s lodge in Złatna was built in 1876 as one of a number of the facilities created by the Management of the Żywiec Estates of the Habsburgs. In the nearby Beskid mountains they managed a planned forest economy. The building was already designed in 1853 by Karol Pietschka, court architect of the archdukes. The forester’s lodge stands on a stone foundation. It is a wooden, log cabin construction. There is a porch with Swiss-type ornamentation running around the whole length of the porch.
Żywiec
The palace of the Habsburgs in Żywiec, also called the New Castle, now houses the Forestry and Lumber Technology School Complex. The neo-Classicist palace was built at the initiative of Archduke Albrecht Friedrich Rudolf von Habsburg in the years 1885 to 1895. His son, Karol Stefan, who decided to settle here permanently, initiated the Żywiec line of the Habsburgs. The Żywiec Habsburgs went down very positively in Polish history - also fighting the white and red flag.
Rajcza
The palace in Rajcza stands in the center of this Beskid village. It is true that Anastazy Siemioński erected the first palace in the first half of the nineteenth century, but it owes its present shape to the reconstruction made by its new owners, the Lubomirskis, in the late nineteenth century. It was then given the Neo-Renaissance form. The palace surrounded by a large, historic park with many monumental trees.
Rajcza
Although military operations did not take place in the Silesian and Żywiec Beskids, there are cemeteries, located in the mountain villages and towns, of soldiers killed in action or those who died in hospitals. One of the largest burial sites is a military sector in the graveyard in Rajcza. The soldiers who died in a field military hospital organized in the local palace of the Habsburgs are buried here.
Korbielów
The Glinne Pass is located in the border ridge of the Beskid Mountains and separates the mountain group of Pilsko (in the west) from the Babiogórski Range (in the east). From the mid-nineteenth century to 2007, the Pass served as an important crossing point on the route, linking first Galicia with Hungary, then Poland with Slovakia. Tourists usually go past the Pass, while hiking along the Kazimierz Sosnowski Main Beskid Trail.
Ujsoły
The Lipowska reserve belongs to a protected area located in the upper parts of the Beskid Mountains, and in particular to a number of nature reserves serving to protect valuable natural sites, located in the ranges of Pilsko and Lipowska. This region, with an area of 63 hectares, is located in the upper parts of the massifs of Lipowska and Rysianka, has been protected since 2008. It aims at preserving the bogland and the montane forest.
Złatna
Hala Lipowska (Lipowska Pasture Land) covers the southern slope of Mount Lipowski Wierch (1324 m). It is one of the most beautiful glades in the Żywiec Beskids. It is known primarily from a beautiful view on both Pilsko and the Tatras, as well as on Mała Fatra and the peaks of Wielka Racza. In the area of Hala Lipowska a popular mountain hostel of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society has been standing since the interwar period.
Sopotnia Wielka
The reserve "Pod Rysianką" is one of the protected areas located in Żywiec Beskids, including fragments of the submontane forests partly on the boundary of the subalpine forests. In the remaining parts of the primeval Carpathian Forest there are, among others, protected plants, and sometimes one can encounter species of rare animals. Along the southern border of the reserve, there is a hiking trail, and in its vicinity the popular mountain hostel “Na Rysiance".
Żabnica
For many years, Hala Rysianka (Rysianka Pasture Land) has competed with nearby Hala Lipowska, as the beautiful vast clearing with a magnificent view stretching from Romanki to Pilsko, through the Tatra Mountains to Mała Fatra. There is a stylish tourist hostel on the glade. In the interwar period, the hostel of the Polish Tatra Society on Rysianka Hall was the center of Polish tourism in this part of the Beskids. The hostel is located at the hub of hiking trails of all colors.
Soblówka
Soblówka lies in the Beskids, in the commune of Ujsoły. The village, situated in the valley of the Cicha brook, at the foot of the massifs of Rycerzowa and Muńcuł, is one of the most picturesque places of the Beskids and the starting point of several hiking trails. The church of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary was erected at the turn of the 40 - and 50s of the twentieth century. It is located on the Wooden Architecture Trail.
Ujsoły
Mount Młada Hora, also called Kiczorka, is peak with a high of 1003 m above sea level, which lies in the Żywiec Beskids. It rises in the group of Wielka Racza, to north of the hills of Mała Rycerzowa and Wielka Rycerzowa, which are popular among tourists. Below the peak of Kiczorka there is a charming mountain settlement called Młada Hora, whose main attraction is a more than sixty- year-old chapel dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul. Since 2011, there has been a hostel of the Polish Polish Tourist and Sightseeing operating in the hamlet.
Cięcina
The village of Cięcina, which lies at the bottom of the Silesian and Żywiec Beskids, boasts having a very interesting sacral monument. It is a sixteenth-century Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria. It is one of the monuments on the Wooden Architecture Trail of the Silesia province and the local Papal Trail. The one-nave church with a tower has been rebuilt several times. It is one of the most precious monuments of the southern part of the Silesian voivodeship.
Rycerka Górna
Wielka Racza is a peak with a height of 1236 m above sea level. It is the highest point in this part of the Beskid Mountains called Worek Raczański. The Polish-Slovak border runs nearby. The mountain slopes covered with thick forests, some of which are protected as nature reserves and picturesque ridges with vast scenic openings make the massif of Wielka Racza one of the most beautiful areas of the Beskids. It is a favorite destination for backpackers who love long hikes. Just below the peak, there is a shelter and the hub of the trails, and on the very top - a viewing platform. On the Slovak side, on the slopes of the ridge extending from the top to the west, there is a ski station.

Ujsoły
The massif of Wielka Rycerzowa (also called Bukowina), rising to a height of 1226 m above sea level, is part of the Wielka Racza range, located in Żywiec Beskids, on the southern edge of Silesia. The Polish-Slovak border runs over the top. To the north of the main summit there is a pass with a vast pasture land, behind which the lower peak of the massif called Mała Rycerzowa rises to a height of 1,207 m. Just below the pass there is a nice mountain hostel.
Glinka
Mount Krawców Wierch, rising to a height of 1071 meters above sea level, is one of the many picturesque peaks of the Beskids. It is located in the border zone between passes of Glinka (to the south) and of Bory Orava (to the north). It is worthwhile to climb to the top because of Hala Krawculi, which is a glade located below the top, and from which there is a beautiful panorama. Accommodation and meals can be found in a stylish mountain hut of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society, which is also known for the many tourist events.
Rycerka Górna
Mount Bendoszka Wielka rises to a height of 1144 m above sea level over popular recreational resorts of Rycerka Dolna and Rycerka Górna in the Żywiec Beskid. The peak of Bendoszka Wielka is covered by a vast pasture land, which offers a wonderful panorama of the Beskid, ranging from Skrzyczne and Magurka Wilkowicka towards Pilsko, and even Mała Fatra. On the very top the monumental Jubilee of the Żywiec Land was erected, under which there is a viewing platform with an information board.
Soblówka
Muńcuł, also called Muńczoł (or Muńcoł, Mańcuł), is a prominent peak, which rises in the Wielka Racza range, part of the Beskids. The distinctive peak rises to the height of over 500 m. It dominates the surrounding valleys of Danielka and Cicha. The pass of Kotarz (975 m above sea level) links the main ridge of the Raczański range with Muńcuł. To the north-east, there is a ridge which runs down towards Ujsoły. In the upper part of Muńcuł, on the south-east slopes, there is a nature reserve.

Zwardoń
Mount Rachowiec is not a high mountain (954 m), but it is popular among tourists in the range of Wielka Racza, towering over the tourist resort village of Zwardoń. The attractiveness of Rachowiec is caused by a ski center operating on its slopes. It has the longest chairlift in this area and the longest ski run (1,200 m). On the northern slopes of Rachowiec, there is a nature reserve "Butorza".
Krzyżowa
The Żywiec Beskid became a tourist destination in earnest a century ago. Polish and German tourists were very quick to recognize the advantages of the high mountain of Pilsko (1557 m above sea level) and the Miziowa Mountain Pasture located on the northern slopes (about 1300 m). Nowadays, they are the most popular hiking, Cycling and skiing destinations. From the mountain we can admire a vast panorama and stay in a comfortable chalet.
Laliki
The southern corners of the Silesian voivodeship with such villages as Istebna, Koniaków or Laliki are one of the most picturesque areas of Poland. It is also the region which for a long time has attracted lovers of wooden architecture and folk art. One of the pearls of these areas is a church in Laliki, which is situated in the hamlet of Pochodzita. The church belongs to the monuments lying on the Wooden Architecture Trail of the Silesia province.
Złatna
Złatna, a highland village tucked amid the hills of the Żywiec Beskid, attracts tourists primarily with its landscape values. There are, however, some interesting monuments from the past, including, among others, ruins of a glassworks. Traces of a chamber furnace and the main building of the glassworks can be found in the hamlet of Złatna Huta. White and green glass was produced during most of the nineteenth century, when the owners of these lands were first the Wielopolskis and later the Habsburgs.
Juszczyna
Juszczyna is a beautifully situated village near Żywiec, in the commune of Radziechowy-Wieprz. It lies at the northern foot of the lofty massif of Romanki. The first mention of the village comes from the seventeenth century. Later, it was also known for the highwaymen marauding in the vicinity. The local Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in the 20s of the twentieth century.
Juszczyna
Kamesznica
The village Kamesznica, located on Żywiec, near Milówka, is a valuable relic, which is the manor and park. It was built in the years 1830 to 1833 with the foundation of Teresa and Marcel Potocki. It consists of several buildings and a park in the English style. Well maintained complex has been included in the list of monuments already in 1935, this team is on the right side of the road leading to Zlatna.
Żywiec
The Żywiec railway station was built in 1878. Within a few years, the city became an important hub along the Carpathian Transversal Railway, connecting Čadca (now Slovakia) with Stanisławów and Husiatyń (now Ukraine). The line, with a length of 800 km, ran through Zwardoń, Żywiec, and then through Sucha Beskidzka, Nowy Sącz, Krosno, Sambor, Drohobycz, and Stryj. It was once of great economic importance. Currently, trains run along a part of the line.
Żywiec
The church of the Holy Cross in Żywiec, also called the church of the Three Crosses is located in the part of town called Rudze. It dates from the late fourteenth century. It was originally built in the Gothic style, but then over the centuries it changed its appearance. According to tradition, the church was built by the settlers, who had been brought to the region by the Thurzon family to search for iron ore on the hills around the city.
