The history of modern water supply systems dates back to the mid-nineteenth century. Characteristic water towers appeared in Upper Silesia in the second half of that century. One of the most beautiful buildings of this kind, which has been preserved to our times, is a water tower in Świętochłowice. It dominates the landscape of the city center, rising above Katowicka Street. The tower was built in 1909. It is crowned with a dome in the neo-Baroque style.
